This printable probe assesses key grade level standards in the four domains of the Math Common Core State Standards: Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Number & Operations in Base Ten, Measurement & Data, and Geometry.

This assessment can be used at the beginning and end of the school year. When given at the beginning of the year, it will give you a baseline of where each student is on grade level academic standards. When given at the end of the year, it will give you growth data for the school year along with possible skills or standards for a student to continue to work on during the summer break. 

It is designed to help teachers determine how much incoming students remember from the previous year. Whether they are ready to jump into the new grade level content or if there are key content standards to review before beginning grade level instruction. 

For homeschool families, this probe will let you know what grade level content is most appropriate for your child and specific skills they may need additional reinforcement in mastering. 

As a special education teacher, I gave portions of this probe to my students during the first two weeks of school to help isolate out their math strengths and deficits. It allowed me to get a beginning of the year baseline data on their math IEP goals, identify additional areas for possible future goals, and gave me concrete data to use in the PLAAFP of their IEP. I also used the data to create my math groups and adjust my whole group lessons. It is also great data to show parents during conferences.
