We aim to have every child walk out the door feeling better about themselves academically, emotionally, and socially than when they entered!!

How our journey began...

During Spring of 2023,  my husband and I were discussing the cards, so to speak, stacked against our kiddos in the post covid educational system due to cultural and social shifts. Cultural and social shifts that do not align with our families beliefs and values. From speaking with other families, we knew we were not alone and began looking into alternate educational avenues which lead us to learning about the Education Support Account (ESA). We began with the idea of setting up a co-op or learning pod but knowing from my years in the classroom students need more consistency and repetition than 1 day a week, this did not align with my education philosophy. As a special education teacher, we had to isolate out the amount of instructional time necessary for a student to master a specific goal or skill. I applied this same concept to analyze a typical academic week. I broke down each subject into how much time was necessary for a typical student to master grade level concepts with appropriate instruction, support, and practice. When you take out holidays, early release days, lunch, transitions, interruptions, fire drills, lock down drills, evacuation drills, late students, students being picked up early, impromptu visitors, etc teachers spend an average of 10 to 15 minutes per day per subject providing direct instruction and practice or 50 to 75 minutes per week for a total of about 450 minutes or 7.5 hours of total time spent on academic instruction and practice each week. This led to the foundation of what has become Education Through Adventure Microschool.

We completed our first full academic year in 2023-2024. We meet 3 days a week for 4 hours each day giving us 12 hours of core academic, social, and creative playtime each week. Those who joined us during our first years came from a public or private school, were working below grade level in multiple academic areas and achieved 1.5 to 3 years of academic growth.

We are located in Scottsdale off Scottsdale Rd and Cactus Rd providing academic support to kiddos in Kinder- 8th grade. As a certified special education teacher, we are set up and equipped to accommodate individuals with disabilities or those who are neurodivergent.

Welcome to our Microschool World built around traditional learning and values, hands on learning, and adventures to reinforce the curriculum, content, and discussion from our weekly lessons.
